October 2020: Wrap ups, endings, and new skillshares

IT’S BEEN A BUSY LAST THREE WEEKS FOR MANY BUT HERE’S OUR OCTOBER BULLETIN WITH NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES.

This month’s Bulletin is about people power seen across Europe and beyond under the banner of #ClimateCareUprising, new series of skillshares coming up and some other announcements.

CLIMATE CARE UPRISING

The Climate Care Uprising came to a close today, with participants taking part in over 72 actions in 57 cities and 24 countries — as well as the Arctic! Watch our wrap up video for more amazing action from around the globe.

NEW SKILLSHARES

Earlier this year we put together a series of webinars which proved to be so popular we’ve decided to do more!

Join us on Tuesday 20th of October for the first of a mini-series of upcoming calls, where we’ll be discussing how we can use digital activism to support offline actions.

DANNENRODER FOREST

The Danni Forest is being destroyed to make way for a new highway in Hesse, Germany. Marion Tiemann has given an update of the destructive plans, the occupation, people power and what this highway means for the future of climate justice in the region.

BY2020 FINAL STRATEGY CONFERENCE

By2020WeRiseUp is a campaign that for the last two years have offered a platform for collaboration and coordination between European Climate Justice groups in order to amplify our impacts. If you haven’t heard of it, you have definitely seen the results as it has been the way grassroots groups have planned together for waves of action and collaborated around the recent Climate Care Uprising!

Even though the campaign is ending, it is by no means an end to collaboration! This is an announcement that there will be a final European Strategy Conference online from the 27th to 29th of November to plan ahead for 2021. The registration information will come towards the end of October so sign up to their info list by emailing [email protected]

If you or your group have been participating in the By2020WeRiseUp waves of actions or campaigns, they have also sent out a call for papers on their website to evaluate the platform and generate ideas for moving forward.

DEFORESTATION CONSULTATION

Companies trading and producing commodities for European supermarkets have had years to cut deforestation out of their supply chains. Now, there is a call for a new law that will keep forest destruction products off the European market.

A large movement of organisations are right now pushing for participation in a public consultation on action to tackle the EU’s forest destruction footprint.

You can help to push for this initiative and ask people to participate in the consultation.

CAMPAIGN SURGERY

Last month we launched a Campaign Surgery to open a way for different groups to access our broad network’s collective knowledge, links, and expertise.

If you’re stuck on an issue while planning a campaign or anything of the sort, use the form below to let us know. We’ll periodically bring together experienced people in the field to draw on their wealth of knowledge and help answer any burning questions you might have.
